Activity to plant seedlings across the state: 7.35 crore plants as on end of last month

Visakhapatnam Forest Circle has been at the forefront of implementing the state government’s ambitious ‘Jagannanna Pacha Thoranam’ program as part of greenery promotion. 353.76 lakh plants with the participation of various Departments across the circle topped the list.

220.34 lakh plants were planted on a large scale under the auspices of the Forest Department and 133.42 lakh plants under the auspices of other departments provided full support for greenery development. While YSR Kadapa district, the CM’s own district with 36.40 lakh plants, is lagging behind.

A state wide planting program under the ‘Jaganna Pacha Thoranam’ Greenery is in full swing. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated the planting program on July 22 in Ibrahimpatnam, Krishna district. Ministers and people’s representatives in the districts inaugurated the program on the same day. Since then, by the end of October, 7.35 crore seedlings have been planted across the state under the auspices of various government departments, private and voluntary organizations.

Chief Minister YS Jagan, who places the highest priority on environmental protection, has set up the Environmental Management Corporation and set up the first online waste management platform in the country. Authorities were ordered to plant seedlings extensively for greenery enhancement.

The focus was mainly on tree cover growth. With this, the forest department is acting as the nodal department and is formulating and implementing an action plan for planting large scale plants across the state. As part of this, plants will be planted across the state for another two months.

The forest department alone planted 3.33 crore saplings across the state by the end of last month. Together with other departments, about 4.02 crore seedlings were planted. With this, a total of 7.35 crore plants have been planted in the state. With plenty of rain this year, everything planted survived well. They grow well and adapt to the weather.

Plants are planted along national and state highways as well as panchayati raj roads. Officials say the trees planted along the roadsides will turn into greenery if the neem, apricot, almond and other verities of plants ,turn into trees.

Sandalwood, teak, red sandalwood and fruit verities of plants which are distributed free of cost by the Social Forestry Department, are being planted by farmers on farm lands and at home.

Mr. P.Rammohan Rao IFS, CF hailed the Visakhapatnam Circle for being at the forefront of the implementation of the Jagananna Pcha Thoranam program undertaken by the state government as part of the greenery drive.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Forest Minister Balineni Srinivasa Reddy directed to N. Pradeep Kumar PCCF (HOFF) implementation of the program. He explained that he was successful following the hints and tips.

He said that 353.76 lakh saplings have been planted in Visakhapatnam, Vizainagaram and Srikakulam districts under the circle with the co-ordination of various government departments along with the efforts of forest officials and staff.

He lauded their efforts in reaching the targets despite of the Corona and floods. He said the highest planting of 220.34 lakh saplings under the auspices of the forest department was a special recognition.
