AP: Union Ministry call for proposals to setup National park in Ananthapur district
Mr. N Pradeep Kumar IFS PCCF (HoFF) said the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests had sought proposals for setting up a new National Park between Penugonda and Somnadhapalli adjoining National Highway 44 in Anantapur district. To this end, he confirmed that special orders had been received from Secretary Rameshwar Gupta to send full detailed proposals on the directives of Union Minister for Environment and Forests Prakash Javadekar.
PCCF said it would collect full details on the directions of the Union Ministry secretary and send the proposals with a report to the Union government soon.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) sought proposals setting up National Park in existing thousand acers of forest land in between Penugonda-Somanadepalli on NH 44 in the district.
The local organizations represented the Centre considered national park in ananthapur district in view of all requirement available for establishing a new park. The Penugonda paryataka porata samithi president Pratap reddy sent a reprasentetion to the MoEFCC seeking a mega park to established in Ananthapur district.
The committee observed that there were more than 2000 acres of Forest lands including hilly racock area available in between Penugonda and Somanadepalli Mandals located on NH 44.
The Union Minister Prakash Javadekar reacted positively towards representation and Rameshwer Gupta Secretary of forests and climate change and directed the state Forest dept to prepare detailed proposals towards establishing and National Park in Ananthapur district.
It may be noted deep reserve forests exist in the district along with diverse flora and fauna. At least 120 leopards,10000 bears and 30,000 blackbucks and many other species exist in the reserve forest and hillock area. More than five leopards died in different incidents in the district for fast few months several incidents of bear attacks on formers have been reported
The proposal was to setup a National park in between Penugonda-Somanadepalli would improve tourists from Ananthapur district and surrounding Karnataka areas because of many tourist centers temples and historic places that existed in the district.
Penugonda, the summer capital of Vijayanagara Empire, Lepakshi with world biggest Nandi sculpture. Puttaparti International spiritual centre, World Biggest Thimmamma Bunion tree, Hemavathi- only temple of Lord Shiva with the human statue in South India, Veerapuram- migratory birds village are among many locations closer to proposed National park.
Further, there would be no water scarcity towards maintaining the National park as Gollapalli and Pandiparthi reservoirs with Krishna waters would meet the necessary needs of the proposed park.
