A Sign of successes…VPT New initiative of operate major vessel
Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) Port is the first to operate 38 metre beam and 229.20 meter long vessel embark on a new innovation. Reached opposite the world’s largest ports in favour of the trade market. The efforts of the Visakhapatnam Port authorities and staff in berthing such vessels are commendable.
Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) handled 38 metre beam and 229.20 metre length vessels in the port area for the first time. The vessel W. Oslo is piloted by the captain Vijay Prakash and captain RC Sarma. The Vizag Port used to handle 32.5 mts beam vessels till now.
According to port sources, the VPT improved its handling capacity of bigger seized vessels up to 45 metre beam into the inner harbour due to a Simulation Study held in Singapore in October of 2019.
VPT chairman K Rama Mohana Rao expressed his happiness and appreciated the officers and staff concerned in berthing the vessel at EQ 7. He hoped that VPT would continue to make efforts in handling bigger size vessels at the inner harbour in future.
“The port has capability to handle bigger size vessels and we have been updating our technology and also machinery. Many wings were mechanised for the benefit of smooth and speed handling of materials,’ he said.
