TRS leads in GHMC Elections
In Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, the state election commission authorities have declared results for 131 out of 150 divisions. The Ruling TRS won 53 while AIMIM bagged 42 and BJP won 35. The Congress candidates won two divisions. Results for 19 more divisions are yet to be declared.
It is clearly evident that the fight was between the ruling TRS and the BJP and BJP cut into TRS votes and even seats. If one look at the strengths of the political parties in the last election held in 2016, the ruling TRS had 99 seats while AIMIM had 44 corporators. The BJP had bagged 4 divisions while Congress had 2. The other parties like TDP and Telangana Jana Samithi could not prove their presence even this time.
However, the TRS will be little short of the magic figure to get the Mayor chair on its own in the 150 division Corporation. It is to be seen, whether the TRS will take the help of AI-MIM or not.
Meanwhile, TRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has already begun consultations with the party senior leaders regarding Mayor. It may be recalled that the Mayor is reserved this time for Woman Candidate in general category. Both the TRS and AIMIM have potentially strong contenders for the post of the first citizen of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
