Kohima: Firefighting operations continue in Duco Range
Nagaland, the operation to douse off the raging Dzukou range fire in Kohima District entered the seventh day. Fire continues to spread; however, the situations are under control in the valley located at Nagaland side.
The Bambi Bucket Operation by the Indian Air Force, IAF helicopters and fire line cutting are in full swing in dousing the fire.
The IAF today deployed four helicopters in which a total of 14 sorties with 28000 litres of water were dropped. The ground operations were carried out by 78 personnel from Police, Forest, NDRF and around 50 Southern Angami Youth Organisation volunteers.
Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Johnny Ruangmei also informed that per the assessment the forest fires have been controlled up to 80 to 90 percent. Ruangmei however, said the South-western side of the valley is still under fire and the operation will continue today.
Sources said Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will conduct an aerial survey of the Dzukou valley today.
