Gujarat: Vijay Rupani announces new tourism policy

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has announced the new Tourism Policy with a view to develop and augment tourism in a sustainable manner. The New Tourism Policy 2021-25 will remain effective from 1st January 2021 to 31st March 2025.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhinagar yesterday, Mr. Rupani said that the New Tourism Policy has been framed keeping in mind the mission of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat. He said that the focus of the new policy will be on ‘Vocal for Local’ to boost the employment at local level.

He said that Gujarat has hill resorts, natural attractions, beaches etc in addition to a rich legacy of ancient crafts and civilizations. He said that the state has the world’s tallest statue at Kevadia, Gir National Park, India’s first World Heritage City, world’s biggest stadium, seaplane services, Blue-Flag certified beach apart from religious places like Somanth, Dwarka and Ambaji.

Mr. Rupani said that tourism projects such as hotels and resorts in high priority centers will qualify for subsidies on investment and other incentives. Some of these high priority centers are Kutch, Devbhumi-Dwarka, Narmada, Gir-Somnath, Porbandar, Junagadh and Dang districts. He said that the new avenues like beach tourism, caravans and rural experience-based tourism will be promoted in the state.

Mr. Rupani said that the government will give subsidy of 20 per cent on capital investment for setting up a hotel in the designated high priority centers. Minimum investment requirement is Rs.1 crore, while there is no cap on maximum investment. 15 percent subsidy will be given on setting up theme parks or amusement parks in these priority centers with the investment of Rs.50 crore to Rs.500 crore.

The state government will provide land on lease in addition to the 15 per cent subsidy for projects of more than Rs.500 crore. According to the new policy, the convention centers with a seating capacity of over 2500, NABH-accredited wellness centers, tourism hospitality and training centers, tents, cottages and container accommodation will also get 15 percent subsidy. The Gujarat government has already announced the Heritage Tourism Policy to highlight the ancient palaces and heritage places recently.
