NABARD Recognises Women Achievers on International Women’s Day
To honour and felicitate the successful women entrepreneurs supported by NABARD, a programme was conducted on 8th March 2021 as part of International Women’s Day celebrations in Karnataka Regional Office. On this occasion about 40 women entrepreneurs, FPOs, Artisans, SHGs, etc., from 6 districts viz., Chikkamagluru, Dakshina Kannada, Dharwad, Mysore, Mandya and Tumkur were invited. The programme was inaugurated by Chief Guest- Ms. A. Manimekhalai, Executive Director, Canara Bank, Bangalore along with Shri Niraj Kumar Verma, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Karnataka Regional Office.
On this occasion, Business Meet of around 20 Rural Marts sanctioned by NABARD across districts of Karnataka was also inaugurated by the Chief Guest.
Shri Niraj Kumar, CGM, NABARD in his welcome address mentioned that NABARD since inception has been implementing various women centric programmes like SHG BLP, Skill development, Artisan clusters etc., for social and economic empowerment of the rural women.
Ms. Manimekhalai while addressing the audience emphasized that men and women are equal in their capacities. Further, she mentioned that services of both are required whether to run a home, organization or nation as a whole. At the same time, women should fight for their equal rights always. She also appreciated the women achievers for their efforts taken to bring improvement in the family by their contribution. She also appreciated efforts by NABARD in women empowerment.
Ms. Shewata. T. R CEO, Bhumivadaya FPC, shared the success story of the company, which is having 500 shareholders with a total turnover of Rs.70 lakh. The FPC is in the business of producing and selling maize, vegetables, seeds, bio-fertilizers, etc.
Smt. Vedavati, Handloom weaver from Talipady Handloom Weavers Society who has been trained through Kadike Trust under NABARD Skill Development programme mentioned that this training has enabled her to earn income of Rs.8,000/- p.m.
Women from Sakhi Saphalya Crafts Producer Company, who belong to the remotest area of Dharwad District, shared their successful journey from being a trainee to the Director of the producers company.
Other Artisans and SHG members viz., Chamundeshwari SHG from Mysore, Bhuvaneshwari SHG from Tumkur, etc., also shared their experience in their economic empowerment through various programmes of NABARD, which are implemented through the NGOs in the districts.
