NTPC Southern Region:  A Glorious journey in the field of power generation

Mr. CV Anand Regional Executive Director (South) has briefed the progress of the company in a media Interaction programme held today. NTPC, India’s largest power utility and a “Maharatna” Enterprise of Govt. of India, has been the flag bearer for the power sector in the country in the last 45 years. NTPC has established its presence in the entire value chain of Power Generation business with a vision

“To be the World’s leading Power Company, Energizing India’s Growth”. NTPC Ltd. has a total installed capacity of 64,880 MW (including JVs); own stations include 24 coal based, 7 gas based, 1 Hydro 15 Solar, Wind & Small Hydro. Under JV, NTPC has 9 coal based, 4 gas based and 13 renewable energy projects.

NTPC Group generated 22% of total electricity in India with 17% share of Country’s total installed capacity. 10th Largest Indian company in Forbes Global 2000 ranking-2020. #2 IPP& Energy Trader in the world as per Platt’s ranking 2020 (Overall Platts Global Energy Company Rankings – 62) Ranked 497th biggest public company in the world in the Forbes Global 2000, 2020 rankings.

Long Term Corporate Plan envisages a vision of becominga130 GW Company by 2032. Share of non-fossil-based capacity will be 30% by 2032. 10 Coal blocks, 103 MMTPAmining capacity 18,000 plus committed workforce NTPC Group surpassed the single day generation mark of 1 BU on 18th Jan, 2021 6 TPC stations amongst the top 10 in the country in terms of PLF till Q3 FY21. Best progress in NTPC Southern region

NTPC has significant presence in Southern Region with a total installed capacity of 9125 MW through Coal, Gas/Liquid Fuel and Solar PV including 1500 MW through JV NTECLVallur. In addition to this, 2000 MW of power from NTPC-Talcher, Kaniha StageII located in Odisha is dedicated for supplying power to Southern states.

Power generation during Covid-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 crisis has underlined the significance of the power utilities, which have assumed greater significance as electricity is extremely critical in smooth functioning of several sectors of the economy. The Coronavirus pandemic may have wreaked havoc across sectors but has failed to dent the spirit of NTPC. India’s largest power producer continued to provide uninterrupted power supply to the Nation. Every power station of NTPC has risen to the occasion and performed at its optimum level. NTPCians were at the frontline and ensuring round the clock power supply. They strictly adhered to COVID-19 guidelines while operating the plants.

NTPC also efficiently managed the coal supplies for continuous supply of electricity.  In Southern Region, all NTPC plants ensured uninterrupted power supply to meet the demand of beneficiary states as per the grid requirement. Following nationwide Lockdown to fight against the COVID-19 global pandemic, construction activities of 1600 MW Telangana Super Thermal Power Project Phase-I was put on hold from March 25th. Construction activities resumed after lifting of the lockdown May 4th, 2020, while observing the COVID-19 guidelines related to construction activities issued by Central and State Government.

Midle of the post

Telangana Project Phase-I execution works are going on in full swing. U#1 TG Lub oil flushing is completed. U#1, TG put on Barring gear on 28.02.21. Start up power is already made available & the GIS building is ready for charging. Unit#2 TG Box Up done during the Covid Period. U#2, Station Switchgear charging (11KV, 2SA) done on 27.02.21. Work on FGD front is in advanced stage of erection completion in U#1. CW pump house, CT, CHP, AHPand MGR are going on with focused approach. 3.5 Million Litres per Day (MLD) Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) has been commissioned.  Unit#1 to be commissioned by January 2022 and Unit#2 by March 2022

Capacity 1600 MW (2 x 800 MW) Investment Approval Jan’16 (29/01/2016) Foundation Stone Hon’ble Prime Minister of India laid the foundation stone for Telangana Phase-I on 7th August, 2016. Approved Cost Rs. 10598.98 Cr Beneficiary States PPA signed for Ph-I with TSSPDCL. 85% allocated to Telangana State and 15% unallocated Fuel Source Mandakini- B Coal block (Odisha) Tapering linkage from Singareni Collieries for 6.85 MTPA. Water Source 60 cusecs (2 TMC) from Yellampally Barrage on Godavari river. Packages SG Island Package to M/s BHEL TG Island & FGD Packages to M/s GE BoP Package to TPL Ash Dyke to Subash Infra Commissioning Unit#1 by Jan 2022 and Unit#2 by March 2022.

NTPC Southern Region has total 265 MW Solar PV Projects

Port Blair Solar PV, A&N • The 5-MW Port Blair Solar PV power plant in Andaman & Nicobar Islands was commissioned on 30th March, 2012 and since then it is generating power to meet power needs of the Union Territory.

Ramagundam Solar PV l A 10 MW Solar Power plant was commissioned at Ramagundam on 31st December, 2013. Consistently achieved high generation with zero Forced Outage and partial loss since commissioning of plant

Anantapuram Solar PV l Ananthapuramu Ultra Mega Solar PV Project is located on the Kadiri-Rayachoti Road in the NP Kunta Mandal of Ananthapuram District . l Phase-I of the Ananthapuramu Ultra Mega Solar PV Project has 250 MW capacity consisting of 5 blocks of 50 MWp capacity each. l Andhra Pradesh is the sole beneficiary of this plant.

FLOATING SOLAR POWER PROJECTS: NTPC is establishing 100 MWac Floating Solar plant at Ramagundam, 92 MWac at Kayamkulam and 25 MWac at Simhadri. The projects are under various stages of construction. The floating solar projects are located in NTPC plant reservoirs.

Ramagundam Floating Solar l The 100 MW Floating Solar PV Project at NTPC Ramagundam will be spread over 450 acres water surface area in the reservoir. l The 100 MW Floating Solar at Ramagundam being set up under non PPA mode is the largest in the country. l EPC Cost: 423 Cr (Including GST) l It is expected to be commissioned by May 2021.

Simhadri Floating Solar l The 25 MW Floating Solar Power Project at NTPC Simhadri STPP is under construction. l The project is awarded to M/s BHEL and the work is under progress. l The modules constituting 40 KW (DC) which was launched on 28.01.2021 would be commissioned during FY 2021-22.

Kayamkulam Floating Solar l A 92 MWac Floating Solar Power Project is under construction at Kayamkulam in Alappuzha District in Kerala. l The 92 MWac Floating Solar Power Project will be installed in the backwaters at Kayamkulam. l Already 105 kW Floating Solar operational at Kayamkulam

Ettayapuram Solar PV l A 230 MWac ground Solar project is also being established at Ettayapuram near Tuticorin in Tamilnadu.

Apart from that it specializes in innovations, sustainable development, and the use of fly ash.The organization has special recognition in designing and implementing special programs under social responsibility. Covid-19 stood by the poor during difficult times. As a social responsibility, they were supported in terms of food and health. Gave special recognition to the same company. Contributed to the awards.

Awards and Recognitions

NTPC-Kudgi plant provided thermal scanners to all schools operated during Xth & NTPC-Telangana received Greentech Safety Award-2020. NTPC-Ramagundam received Telangana State Energy Conservation Award-2020 Silver Award. NTPC-Ramagundam received Award & Certificate of Appreciable Achievements in Occupational Health and Safety instituted by National Safety Council, Hyderabad. Ramagundam received Overall Business Excellence Award. Simhadri received Safety Innovation award 2020 from Institution of Engineers (India). Simhadri won the Greentech award in Gold Category. Kudgi won the “GOLD Award” under “Environment Preservation” Category in Power Sector. The award was constituted by Sustainable Development Foundation.
