ICG rescued 6 precious lives at sea from the unfortunate Dhow
Coast Guard Dornier aircraft whilst on routine MR sortie picked up distress call at 1135 h on 20 Mar 21 from MSV Safina AL-Mirzan. Immediately, CG Dornier after thorough search in area for almost 30 min sighted the debris and 06 personnel floating in water in mid sea. The CG Dornier aircraft after assessing the sea conditions dropped Life Raft from air.
The ill-fated crew was floating in mid sea facing the challenging weather condition. In a swift response, based on inputs received from CG Dornier Coast Guard District HQ Karnataka dispatched Fast Interceptor Boat C-448 for Search and Rescue Mission. The boat reached the location in less than an hour and rescued all six crew of ill-fated dhow who were in distress due to flooding in the vessel’s engine room.
The ill-fated vessel had sailed from Old Mangalore Port on 19 Mar at 1430 h carrying 120 Tons of cargo for Lakshadweep Island. The initial assessment by the rescue team revealed seepage of sea water into the boat’s engine room had caused flooding on dhow which lead to sinking in position 30 Nm West of Kasaragod.
All 06 crew (05 from Gujarat and 01 from Mangalore) brought back safely and healthy to New Mangalore port and handed over to Coastal Police/AD Fisheries for further action.
