AP Forest, NTPC-Simhadri Special Initiative for Conservation of Olive Ridley Sea Turtles
Forest department and NTPC-Simhadri jointly organises Releasing of Olive sea turtles hatch-lings today
The Department of Forests, NTPC-Simhadri has taken a special initiative to conserve the Olive Sea Turtles. As part of this, the Forest Department, NTPC-Simhadri will jointly release the hatch-lings of the Olive Sea Turtles into the sea today. The coast of Visakhapatnam is going to be the venue for that.
A few days ago, NTPC Simhadri launched a large-scale turtle conservation program. The interventions of NTPC Simhadri supported forest department in aligning the resources for the critical activity and resulted in increasing trend in the hatch-lings released in the sea water. As part of this, Olive Ridley will be releasing sea turtle cubs into the sea in the second phase in collaboration with the Forest Department.
NTPC Simhadri’s support for conservation of vulnerable species of Olive Ridley Sea Turtles is an important milestone in mainstreaming biodiversity in business decisions and supporting in meeting the requirements under India’s National Biodiversity Target 6 and 12. This project is further aligned with United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 14 that advocates conservation and sustainable use of Oceans, Seas and Marine resources and aquatic ecosystem.
