Phase 4 polling begins in West Bengal
Polling for the fourth phase of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election will be held today across 44 assembly seats. These seats are spread in Cooch Behar and Alipurduar districts of North Bengal and some parts of South 24 Parganas, Howrah and Hooghly districts of South Bengal.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union minister Babul Supriyo is among the key candidates who are in the fray in this phase. Apart from him, voters will also decide the electoral fate of two other BJP MPs and two state ministers of the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Among the 373 candidates in the fray, TMC leader Ahmed Javed Khan is the richest with declared assets worth over Rs 32.33 crore. There are 65 candidates with assets over Rs 1 crore. On the other hand, Noushar Ali Molla, an Independent candidate from Bhangar seat, stands at the bottom on this index with a total “declared asset” of Rs 500.
Besides this, 81 candidates participating in phase 4 have criminal cases against them. Mirja Hasan of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) from the Bhangore constituency leads the list with 19 cases against him.
