CSK win by 69 runs
So, Siraj and Chahal survived till the 20th over but how does it matter. CSK have handed RCB their first defeat of IPL 2021. A comprehensive 69-run win.
The match will long be remembered for the show which Ravindra Jadja produced. 62 not out runs, 3 wickets, 1 run-out and not to forget another direct hit towards the end. Imran Tahir and Shardul Thakur were effective with the ball as well. Tahir picked 2 wickets and also a direct hit to run out Jamieson.
Chennai opener Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis set the tone for the team. Raina carried it forward and then Ravindra Jadeja fetched 37 from the 20th over (including a no ball). 5 sixes came in that over. CSK are again the table-toppers.
Maxwell the in-form player for RCB was off with a couple of boundaries but Jadeja was too hot to handle for him. The left-armer got turn on this spin-friendly pitch and knocked the leg stump out.
AB was completely bamboozled by Jadeja’s spin to put CSK right on top. Jadeja fired a bullet throw too to round off his contributions in all aspects of the game. An unbelievable innings with the bat, taking Harshal Patel for 37 runs in the final over, three wickets for almost nothing with the ball and a run-out too.
54/1 to 94/8, RCB just couldn’t handle pressure. The tailenders then dragged the innings all the way to 20 overs. These are not just four wins for CSK, but four convincing wins that takes their net run rate to a massive +1.612.
The Men in Yellow are all smiles. They have ended RCB’s four-match winning streak and picked up their own 4-match streak. What a turnaround after that thrashing at the hand of Delhi Capitals. Did RCB play the target too much and looked to get too much before the ball lost its freshness?
Padikkal was brilliant with his range of shots and RCB were perfectly on course in the chase. Had to make the most of the new ball. Can’t ask more than 44/0 in 3 overs. Just had to play themselves in, keep wickets in hand and test CSKs death bowling, but Dhoni showed why he is Dhoni. Padikkal had just taken Curran for an 18-run over, and then he came to smash Chahar’s next over for 16.
Most captains would have changed the bowler, but an unperturbed Dhoni stuck to Curran and got Kohli out first ball of his second over. Four more and a single of the last ball followed. The momentum changed completely. He knows he has the spinners and bowlers who can bowl cutters for the oldish ball, so he was never worried.
He keeps proving time and again that keeping it simple and clarity of thought is so important to succeed. He got Thakur on and Padikkal was sent back next over.
