The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday granted relief to Zuari Cements, quashing government orders to close the company.
The court asked Zuari Cements to implement the Pollution Control Board’s instructions by the 31st of this month. The High Court clarified that the company could be run till then.
Earlier, on April 24, the Pollution Control Board ordered the closure of Zuari Cement.
Zuari Cement, however, filed a petition in the High Court challenging the order. The matter came up for hearing in the High Court yesterday.
The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board has ordered the closure of the Zuari cement industry at Yerraguntla in Kadapa.
Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board officials have issued notices to power department officials to immediately cut off power supply to the company.
The PCB found that Zuari Cement had not taken precautions in the matter of pollution.
It was against this background that the company challenged these orders in the High Court and was relieved to run the company apart from subsequent orders.
