Two Indian rowers have been successful in securing their place for the Tokyo Olympics
Two Indian rowers succeeded in confirming their berth for Tokyo Olympics today. Arjun Jaat and Arvind Singh qualified for the Men’s Double sculls event after finishing second at the Asia Oceania Continental Regatta event.
Another Indian, Jakar Khan finished fourth in the Men’s Singles sculls final which offers five Olympic quotas but he missed out as a country gets only one qualifying spot from this regatta.
Arjun Lal and Arvind will be the only Indian rowers in Tokyo Games which open on 23rd of July as India will not participate in other Olympic qualifiers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In sailing, four Indians have already qualified for the Tokyo games through Mussanah Open Championship in Oman. Nethra Kumanan became the first Indian female sailor to qualify for the Olympics after grabbing the first spot.
Meanwhile, the International Olympic Committee, IOC has announced the signing of Memorandum of Understanding with Pfizer Inc and its partner BionNTech SE to donate doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to Games participants from National Olympic and Paralympic Committees around the world. The step has been taken to ensure safe and secure Olympic and Paralympic games Tokyo 2020.
National Olympic committees (NOCs) will work with their local governments to co-ordinate local distribution in accordance with each country’s vaccination guidelines and consistent with local regulations.
