Hyderabad: We are best in pharma..But we can’t gets vaccine.. Bad luck for Telangana

Hyderabad: We are the best in pharma. This fact is evident through the growth of exports of pharma products. The Corona disaster also saw the World Pharma market grow by 18 per cent, while vaccine exports grew by 8 per cent. Of these, we are proud to have a large number of pharma products manufactured in Pharma Hub of Hyderabad.

However, the unavailability of the vaccine we produced during the difficult times is causing concern among the locals.

India once again excels in Hyderabad, pharma and vaccine exports. While the global pharma market was negative in the 2020-21 financial year pharma exports from India grew by 18 per cent. A total of $ 24.44 billion worth of pharma products were exported. This is the first time in the last eight years that such growth has been achieved. Vaccine exports grew up 8%.

Most of these are made in Hyderabad. The country exported $ 883 million worth of vaccines in the 2020-21 financial year. The value of the corona vaccine was estimated at $ 143 million. Most of the exports come from Hyderabad, the hub for vaccine manufacturing.

The value of vaccines exported from Telangana is expected to increase significantly in the coming days. Pharma exports grew by 7.57 per cent to $ 20.58 billion in 2019-20. Ravi Udaybhaskar, Director General, Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India, said that while the global pharma market was negative at around 2%, it was not uncommon for India to register a growth of 18.07%.

Exports of pharma products reached a record high of $ 2.3 billion in March of the 2020-21 fiscal year. This is an increase of 48.5 percent compared to March last year ($ 1.54 billion). Exports are expected to grow further in the current financial year.

Manufacturing of generic drugs and vaccines made in India is expected to grow further.

The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme is expected to reduce imports and boost exports as all corona vaccines are manufactured in India. India is expected to look for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).

Most to North America ..

India is the largest exporter of pharma and vaccines to North America. About 34 per cent of our exports go here. The USA was 12.6 per cent, Canada 30 per cent and Mexico 21.4 per cent. Exports to African countries grew significantly last year. Exports were 2.24 per cent in 2019-20 and 13.40 per cent in 2020-21.

South Africa also has the highest exports in Africa. Exports here grew by 28 per cent. Then came Nigeria, Kenya and Tanzania. Exports to European countries accounted for 11 percent. Apart from these, exports to Australia grew by 21 per cent, UAP by 43 per cent, Uzbekistan by 125 per cent and Ukraine by 40.6 per cent.
