Cyclone Taukae: Karnataka on high alert
Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts in Karnataka are on high as cyclone Taukae hits the Indian coastline. The fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea till May 18.
The people living in low lying areas were shifted to safer locations. Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Revenue Minister R Ashoka held a state disaster management meeting on Saturday and reviewed the preparations for the relief works.
The coastline and adjoining districts bore the brunt of torrential rain and high speed wind as the cyclone hit the coastline. A red has been called in the coastline.
All the holidays of Government officials in the Home and Revenue department have been cancelled. Two NDRF teams are stationed in Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu.
They are equipped with Inflatable boats, life jackets, life buoys, cutting equipment, rescue items, deep divers sets, generators and satellite phones. Eight relief camps are set up in three coastal districts.
Multipurpose cyclone Shelters are constructed. Medicines, Masks, sanitisers and soap are stored here.
