Cyclonic storm Tauktae likely to cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Naliya around 18th May: IMD
The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning that a deep depression over the Arabian Sea has intensified into cyclonic storm Tauktae and is likely to cross the Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Naliya around 18th May.
According to sources, the cyclonic storm Tauktae will be a very severe cyclonic storm from 16th to 18th May.
The Met department said that Tauktae is very likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during the next six hours and into a very severe cyclonic storm during the subsequent 12 hours.
It is very likely to move north-northwestwards and cross the Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Naliya on 18th May.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has called a high level core committee meeting at Gandhinagar to review the state preparedness in view of Severe Cyclonic Storm Tauktae.
He has directed the state administration to take all necessary steps with zero casualty approach. All district collectors in the coastal region have been asked to ensure the safe return of fishermen who went in the sea.
Mr. Rupani also asked to make special arrangements for the Covid patients taking treatment in the coastal areas. The coastal districts of South Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch region have been asked to remain on high .
15 NDRF teams reached Jamnagar for deployment in the coastal Saurashtra. Local met office has predicted rains in some parts of Saurashtra and Kutch from tomorrow as an impact of a cyclonic storm.
