Telangana govt is committed to the protection of Biodiversity: Minister I.K. Reddy
The International Biodiversity Day under the auspices of the Telangana State Biodiversity Board was celebrated today in a virtual mode through a webinar at the Forest Department Headquarters Aranya Bhavan. Telangana State Biodiversity Board Secretary Mr. Kalicharan S. Khartade made a welcome speech and addressed the online activities.
The Chief Guest Ms. R. Shobha, Pril. Chief Conservator of Forest (HoFF) addressed the gathering and elaborated the theme of this year.
Electronic People’s Biodiversity Register (PBR) was launched by the dignitaries to expedite the documentation of Telangana Biodiversity for maximum awareness among common people.
A flagship program JeevavividhyamRacha Banda / Biodiversity Chaupalwas also launched for Telangana State to create maximum awareness about the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 and People’s Biodiversity Register at gram panchayat level in Telangana State.
Sri. Allola Indrakar Reddy Honorable Minister for EFS&T has addressed about International Biodiversity Day-2021 through Recorded Voice Message and gave message to protect Telangana Biodiversity.
TSBDB also organized Webinars on Time to transform the food system by Sri. Ravindra, Director WASSAN, Science &Tradition by Dr. Kanna K. Sripurapu, Researcher WASSAN, and Action for Biodiversity with special reference to ‘We are a part of the solution’ by Sri. Srinivas Murthy, IFS Former Member Secretary Madhya Pradesh Biodiversity Board, were also organized and around 350 participants in each sessions across the state and country joined the webinar and had a fruitful interaction with the speakers.
Around 500 people from across Telangana and the country including the Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) members, Stakeholders, Line Department, Students and lecturer joined the Program.
Every year May 22 is celebrated as the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity. The theme for this year International Biological Diversity Day is “We are part of the solution # For Nature”.
To celebrated International Biological Diversity Day in this lockdown situation Telangana State Biodiversity Board (TSBDB) has started an online awareness campaigns for the school /college students and common people about the biodiversity conservation & its sustainable Utilization. TSBDB has launched a webpage for the several competitions on 10th May to 20th May 2021.
The campaigns involve competitions on cartoon designing, painting, essay, elocution, slogan writing, dance on biodiversity, biodiversity fancy dress and photography. TSBDB has also conducted biodiversity quiz on social media (facebook) to reach maximum people across the globe. Total 8600 participant participated in the online competitions from all over Telangana and across the country.
TSBDB bags two India Biodiversity awards
We are glad to inform that today on the occasion of International Day for Biological Diversity 22 May 2021 Telangana State has bagged two India Biodiversity awards.
In 2012, the Government of India, in partnership with UNDP India, initiated the India Biodiversity Awards to recognize and honour outstanding models of biodiversity conservation, sustainable use and governance at the grassroots level. This year telangana state has submitted nominations for two categories, and we are happy to declare that telangana received both the awards. One under category II Conservation of Domestic species, Institution and Individual to Amrabad Poda Laxmi Gou Sagam for conservation of Thurpu Poda the first register cattle of Telangana.
and the other award is given under in the category III Replicable Mechanisms for Access and Benefit Sharing to Vulgaro Biosciences for successfully implementation of Access Benefit sharing in Telangana State.
