Kerala records 17,821 new COVID cases
Kerala recorded 17,821 new COVID cases today. Test positivity rate of the State has shown a slight decrease at 20.41 per cent. 36,039 persons recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the active case load to 2,59,179. State has also reported its highest daily death count so far as 196 deaths have been confirmed of COVID today. This took the cumulative death toll to 7,554.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Viajayan has said that State wide lockdown has helped in reducing the virus spread. Test positivity rate and active case load has been declining in the State for the past few days.
Active cases in the State were above 4.5 lakhs 10 days ago and it has fallen down considerably. More stringent measures will be applied in regions where infection rate is higher. Testing and quarantine facilities will be enhanced in these areas.
The government is taking all steps to provide vaccines to everyone. He requested the people to follow the protocols and also warned that strict actions will be taken against those who violate it.
The State Health department will soon formulate necessary protocols against Black fungus disease. He also added that 11 more hospitals in the State have won NQAS certification from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
