Tamil Nadu: COVID-19 outbreak reported in Asiatic Lions at Zoological park Vandalur
A COVID-19 outbreak has been reported in the Asiatic Lions at the Zoological park Vandalur in Tamil Nadu.
According to the press release, the lions were found symptomatic and a nine year old lioness Neela had succumbed to the disease yesterday.
All the other lions have been brought under the supervision of the vets of Tamilnadu Veterinary University.
Swab tests taken from 11 lions have been sent to the ICAR lab at Bhopal for further tests and tigers and other large mammals are also being sent for tests.
The staff have also been urged to take RT PCR tests. A nationwide consultation process has also been started by senior officials involving domain experts and scientists.
