French Open: Women’s Singles Semi Finals to be played today
In the French Open, the Women’s Singles Semi Finals will be played today. In the first encounter, Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will battle Slovenia’s Tamara Zidansek for the final to be played on Saturday.
Both players have never been this far before at a major. In the second semi final Maria Sakkari of Greece will face off Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic. Both are in uncharted territory as Grand Slam singles semi-final debutantes.
While Sakkari sent home defending champion Iga Swiatek, Krejcikova won a nervy encounter with American teenager Coco Gauff.
In the men’s section, 13-time champion Rafael Nadal and top seeded Novak Djokovic will face each other in the semi-final tomorrow.
Nadal entered French Open semi-finals for the 14th time beating Argentina’s 10th seed Diego Schwartzman, while Djokovic beat heavy-hitting Italian Matteo Berrettini in an intense duel. In the other semi final, No. 5 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will face world No. 6 Alexander Zverev.
