FCI supplied over 70 lakh tonnes of free food grains to all States, UTs under PMGKAY
Food Corporation of India, FCI has supplied over 70 lakh tonnes of free food grains to all States and Union Territories under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Monday announced that the scheme benefitting nearly 80 crore people in the country has been extended till November this year.
Under this scheme 5 kilogram rice or wheat per month is provided free of cost to every beneficiary family member under the National Food Security Act of 2013. Consumer Affairs Ministry said, 13 States and Union Territories namely Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Goa, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Punjab, Telangana and Tripura have lifted full allocation for May and June this year.
23 States and Union Territories have lifted 100 per cent food grains from the allocation for the month of May. The Central Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution Ministry has informed that the Centre will bear the entire cost on account of distribution under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana including food subsidy, intra-state transportation and dealer’s margin.
The Centre has sensitised the Governments of all the States and Union Territories to complete the distribution of free food grains under the scheme in a time bound manner.
