Telangana: Cabinet strongly opposes AP Govt’s illegal Rayalaseema irrigation projects
The Cabinet has strongly protested the construction of the Rajolibanda (RDS) right canal, the Rayalaseema Uplift Scheme, which is being carried out illegally by the AP government. The Irrigation Department has already filed cases in the Supreme Court against the Telangana National Green Tribunal against illegal projects.
The Cabinet was of the view that Telangana should go as far as possible to safeguard the interests of the peasantry. Irrigation projects in Palamuru, Nalagonda, Khammam, Warangal and Rangareddy districts will be severely unfair to Hyderabad due to illegal projects headed by the Andhra Pradesh government.
To secure the share of Krishna water which is rightfully due in this context. The following decisions were discussed and taken by the Council of Ministers of State.
The state had a surplus of 3 crore tonnes of paddy last year, the agriculture ministry told the cabinet. The Agriculture Ministry told the Cabinet that this time it had already received 60 per cent more rainfall than normal this month and 5 per cent more than last year.
The Cabinet directed that steps be taken to provide prompt insurance to stripe workers and handloom workers, immediate release of ex gratia due to fishermen and stripe workers, and release of funds to MBC Corporation for various occupational castes.
It directed the Cabinet officials to make arrangements for immediate payment of insurance to the occupational castes as soon as insurance is provided to the farmers.
