Chennai: Air Customs officials found 107 live spiders in parcel arrived from Poland at Foreign Post Office
The Chennai Air Customs officials found 107 live spiders after intercepting a postal parcel which arrived from Poland at Foreign Post Office on suspicion of containing some arthropod /invertebrate species.
The spiders were put inside small plastic vials wrapped in silver foil and cotton inside the parcel which was addressed to a person at Aruppukottai.
Officials of the Wild life Crime Control Bureau and scientists of Zoological Survey of India identified the species to be native of South, Central America and Mexico.
The Animal Quarantine Officials recommended deporting the parcel containing the spiders to the Country of origin as the import was illegal and without DGFT license and health related documents of import to India. The Chennai airport Commissioner’s office said that further investigations were under progress.
