NTPC pioneers in solar floating power generation
NTPC is at the forefront of solar floating power generation in Telugu states. In Andhra Pradesh NTPC Simhadri has already started generating 10 MW of solar floating power in the first attempt and is preparing to launch another 15 MW of solar floating power generation by August this year.
Similarly, NTPC Ramagundam in Telangana, the largest solar floating power plant in India, is making final touches to launch a 100 MW project. NTPC will be proud to see this project completed..
25MW Simhadri Floating Solar PV Project
Simhadri Super Thermal Power Plant, Vishakhapatnam, AP, A flagship Project of Maharatna NTPC Limited, draws sweet water requirement from Eleru Canal to a man made Raw water reservoir spread in 150Acres near Plant boundary for storage & further use.
In the year 2019 , it was proposed to install floating solar plant on the reservoir without effecting the bund by providing first of its kind Anchor Ropes from all sides, the project was awarded to M/S BHEL on EPC basis with a cost of 110 Crores with a completion period of 15months.
Despite of Severe COVID-19 pandemic in India & AP, the floating Solar Project of NTPC Simhadri has faced huge difficulties in the equipment supplies & Man Power mobilization. Beating all odds NTPC Simhadri, successfully completed the 10MW of Total 25MW and successfully connected to Southern grid on 29.06.2021 and declared commercial w.e.f from 12:00Hrs of 30.06.2021
Simhadri Commissioned 1st 10MW Floating Solar Project , which is the single largest installation in India as on date and which is also considered to be an engineering marvel with unique Anchoring and Mooring techniques.
The power evacuation from this project is through dedicated cabling from Reservoir to Plant switchgear at 33KV level.
As stated by Mr. Diwakar Kaushik, HOP NTPC Simhadri, the balance 15 MW Works are in full swing and it is expected that next 15MW will be added by August end of this year. After commissioning 15 MW Total capacity will be 25 MW
Further, NTPC Limited also developing another 100MW Floating solar Project in NTP ,Ramagundam , Telangana, its largest Project in SR, and the project is in advanced stage of commissioning and also this is going to be the India’s largest Floating Solar Installation once commissioned.
