AP; Union Ministry of Forests has responds positively to sale of red sandalwood: PCCF Prateep Kumar
A video conference meeting was held from New Delhi under the auspices of Indian Ministry of Forests ADG (Wildlife) Soumitra Das Gupta. Andhra Pradesh Forest Department PCCF (HoFF) Mr. N. Pradeep Kumar said, several issues were brought to the attention of central government officials.
On this occasion, he said that there is a huge demand for red sandalwood internationally. The Andhra Pradesh Forest Department has recently sold 318 metric tonnes of red sandalwood for Rs 182.26 crore.
He said the details of the seized goods in Andhra Pradesh were being brought to the notice of the Central Government. The seized wood was kept safe at the Central Godown in Tirupati. He explained that now AP has 5376.03 metric tonnes of red sandalwood.
He brought to the notice of the central government officials that good results would come if the stored goods were put up for sale in a timely manner and they responded positively to the suggestion of the Andhra Pradesh authorities.

They responded positively when Mr. Pradeep Kumar pointed out to central government officials that giving quick approvals could not only boost sales but also curb smuggling. He explained that buyers are interested in buying in the international market.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has also advised them to be completely transparent on red sandalwood sales and has been directing the forest department on international sales from time to time.
It was confirmed at the meeting that the details from the AP were complete. He said the details should also come from other states. PCCFN Pradeep Kumar has so far auctioned the full quota of 8498 metric tonnes given to AP.
