8000 cases booked involving fake Input Tax Credit of over Rs 35,000 Cr during last financial year

CGST zones and the Directorate General of GST Intelligence have booked about eight thousand cases involving fake Input Tax Credit of over Rs 35,000 crore during the last financial year.

Finance Ministry said that over 400 persons including 14 professionals such as CAs, Lawyers and masterminds, beneficiaries and directors were arrested during this period.

The Ministry said that due to the serious COVID pandemic spread during the past few months the drive had slowed down.

It added that with the gradual lifting of lockdown and improved COVID-19 situation in different parts of the country, the department has resumed the drive at the national level.
