Karnataka: Basavaraj Bommai to be sworn in as new CM today
Basavaraj Bommai will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka tomorrow morning.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today announced after a legislative party meeting that BJP leader Bommai has been selected the legislative party leader.
He will be the successor of B S Yediyurappa who had stepped down yesterday due to age factor.
After being elected the legislative party leader, Bommai met Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot.
The Governor invited the new leader to take the oath of office tomorrow. He alone will be sworn in tomorrow.
Bommai is the three time MLA from Shegaon in Haveri district in North Karnataka and was the Home minister and Parliamentary Affairs minister in the Yediyurappa cabinet.
Considered a close confidant of Yediyurappa, Bommai joined BJP in 2008 and served as Water Resources minister between 2008 and 2013.
