‘Architect of National Flag Pingali Venkaiah is a multifaceted genius’
Hyderabad: The architect of the national flag Late Pingali Venkaiah is a multifaceted genius, said Shri Kurra Jithendra Babu, an historian. Delivering the keynote address at a webinar organized by Regional Outreach Bureau and Press Information Bureau, media units of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India on ‘Pingali Venkaiah’ –the architect of Indian Flag’ on the occasion of his 145th birth anniversary today.
Jithendra Babu said apart from designing the National Flag, Pingali Venkaiah was an authority in geology, agriculture and also an educationist.
Pingali Venkaiah was the first person to propose to have a separate National Flag for India. He also a wrote a book – “Indian Nation Flag” in 1916 when National Movement was at its peak stage.
Jithendra Babu said National Flag, designed by Pingali Venkaiah, was approved with some modifications at the Indian National Congress meeting held at Vijayawada on 1st April 1921. Pingali Venkaiah toured more than 30 countries and also obtained membership from Royal Agriculture Society, Shri Babu said.
Earlier, Smt. Shruti Patil ,Director PIB & ROB in her opening remarks said that Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements which started on 12th March 2021 for a 75-weeks countdown and ends on15th August 2023.
This was the part series of outreach efforts to reminisce the freedom struggle and freedom fighters on 75 years of country’s Independence, Azadi Ka Amruth Mahotsav. Officers of Press Information Bureau and Regional Outreach Bureau participated in the webinar.
