Olympics: Kamalpreet Kaur finishes 6th in discus final
In women’s Discus Throw finals at Tokyo Olympics, USA’s Valarie Allman won gold medal with a best throw of 68.98 metres. Silver went to Kristin Pudenz of Germany with 66.86 metres and Bronz was bagged by Cuban Yaime Revez with 65.72 metres.
India’s Kamalpreet Kaur finished 6th with 63.70 metres.
In equestrian, Indian participant Fouaad Mirza finished with 23rd rank, while J. Krajewski of Germany topped table and England’s T. Mcewen finished 2nd.
India’s athletics team will be in action tomorrow as Annu Rani will participate in the Javelin throw while Tajinder Singh Toor will take part in the Men’s shot put qualification. The Wrestling event will also begin on tomorrow as Sonam Malik will be seen in action in the Women’s 62 kilogram freestyle category against Bolortuya Khurelkhuu of Mongolia.
Indian wrestling contingent will begin their Tokyo Olympics campaign at the Makuhari Messe Hall in Tokyo. The seven-member wrestling squad includes the likes of Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Seema Bisla, Sonam Malik, Anshu Malik, Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Deepak Punia. In the women’s freestyle events, a couple of 19-year-olds Sonam and Anshu will wrestle in the 62 kg and 57 kg category respectively, while Commonwealth games and Asian Games gold medallist Vinesh will be the number one seed in the 53 kg category. Seema will wrestle in 50 kg category.
In the men’s freestyle events, Asian Games and Commonwealth gold medallist, Bajrang will wrestle in 65 kg category, while Deepak and Dahiya will be involved in 86 kg and 57 kg category respectively.
Apart from Vinesh, the other six from the Indian wrestling squad will all be making their Olympics debut this week.
