UP: BDL has entered into an MoU to invest in Defence Corridor
Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to invest in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor.
Hyderabad-based missile and ammunition manufacturers Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (EIDA) on Thursday.
BDL is the country’s sole Defence Public Sector Company, manufacturing missiles and underwater weapons for the armed forces.
As part of its diversification and expansion strategy, BDL announced the establishment of a manufacturing unit in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor in Jhansi.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Chairman and Managing Director of BDL Commodore Siddharth Mishra in Lucknow.
According to the MoU, BDL, a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, will acquire 215 acres of land in Jhansi under a lease agreement for an initial period of 30 years, with the option to extend the lease for an additional 90 years.
The new facility will manufacture propulsion systems for various types of missiles.
BDL, a mini-ratna Category-1 company based in Hyderabad, intends to begin operations at this facility by 2023.
BDL currently operates three manufacturing facilities, two in Telangana and one in Andhra Pradesh. The company is also in the process of establishing manufacturing plants in Amravati, Maharashtra, and Ibrahimpatnam, Telangana.
The upcoming facility in Jhansi will be the sixth in the country and the first in Northern India.
For numerous missile and underwater weapon programmes, the Company has collaborated with global Original Equipment Manufacturers such as Naval Group of France, Rafael Advanced Defense System Ltd of Israel, Thales of the United Kingdom, STE “SPETSTECHNOEXPORT” of Ukraine, and MBDA of France/UK.
BDL also intends to establish a facility in the UP Corridor to meet testing criteria under the Ministry of Defence’s “Defence Testing Infrastructure Scheme.”
