AU students’ golden opportunity for higher studies at US universities: US IP Attache visited Andhra University

Mr. John Cabeca, U.S Intellectual Property Attaché for South Asia, Embassy of The United States of America, New Delhi has visited Andhra University on the request of Prof.H.Prusushotham, DPIIT-IPR Chair. Prof. P.V.G.D. Prasad Reddy Vice Chancellor received and felicitated him.

During the interactive meeting, Prof. PVGD Prasad Reddy, Vice-Chancellor appraised that American Corner is being established in Andhra University and the Centre will create awareness about opportunities available for higher education, the art, culture and customs of USA to the students who wish to pursue higher education in US Universities and also helps students in educating about the visa processes etc. The Vice-Chancellor also shared his vision of creating vibrant student start-up ecosystem in the University campus.

Prof.V. Krishna Mohan Registrar briefed about various IPR activities that have been initiated in the University such as introduction of IPR course as a mandatory credit course at UG level, IPR policy brought by the University and the state government recognizing the Centre for Intellectual Property Rights of Andhra University as a State IPR nodal agency for building capacities in the IPR area in the state of Andhra Pradesh in general and all the state universities in particular.

Shri. Ravi Easwarapu presented that Andhra University is in the process of establishing 4 incubation centers in the area of IOT/Machine Learning, Marine Biology and ICT/Softwares in partnership with Government of Andhra Pradesh, NASSCOM, STPI.

Prof. Purushotham DPIIT-IPR Chair suggested to Mr. John Cabeca to consider signing a MOU with Andhra University to leverage the best practices of USPTO particularly in the area of University IP, Technology Transfer and Commercialization as US is the world leader for their high-quality IP creation and commercialization.

Mr. John expressed his happiness over various IP and Innovation activities being implemented at Andhra University and said that respecting the rights of the IP creators needs to be nurtured in the society to attract investments and promote innovation and he will examine positively the feasibility of partnering with Andhra University in strengthening the IP and the Innovation ecosystem in the University campus.
