Singareni Thermal Power Station bags National Level Award for Environmental Activities
The Singareni Thermal Power Station at Jaipur in Manchiriala District has received another prestigious award in the category of Southern States at the national level in recognition of its environmental initiatives.
The award was announced by the Mumbai-based Mission Energy Foundation on Wednesday at a national level conference for the most economical use of water in thermal power plants.
Mr. N. Sridhar Chairman and MD presented the award to Director (E&M) Shri D. Satyanarayana Rao at Singareni Bhavan, Hyderabad and congratulated the plant officials and staff.
The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission has ruled that thermal power plants, typically above 500 MW, can use up to 3 cubic meters of water per megawatt.
Due to special arrangements and measures at the Singareni Thermal Power Station, the water consumption is limited to 2.3 cubic meters. In recognition of this uniqueness, the Mission Energy Foundation in Mumbai announced the award recognizing STPP as one of the most economical water users of the 500 MW thermal power plants in South India.
Installation of High Consumption Slurry Disposal System at Singareni Thermal Power Station, Water Recycling through Effluent Treatment Plant and continuous monitoring of water use enables efficient water conservation.
This is the third award for the Singareni Thermal Power Station this year. It is learned that STPP received awards in April for best operational plant in April and in June for outstanding flyash utilization in the past.
