Kerala continues to report surge in Covid cases as it confirms 29,322 new positive cases on Friday. The test positivity rate in Kerala is 17.91 percent at present.
Over 1,63,691 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 131 deaths were also confirmed due to Covid today, taking the death toll to 21,280. Bringing respite, 22,938 recoveries were also reported. At present, over two lakh 40,000 people are undergoing covid treatment in the state.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the ward level committees have stayed back in putting up an effective defense against the Covid spread happening throughout the state.
He said that this was one of the main reasons for the current hike of the disease. The Chief Minister’s criticism came during a meeting with the people’s representatives and officials of the local self-governing bodies to discuss the ongoing Covid defense activities in the state.
The CM said that a complete lockdown or a total closure was not practically applicable now. In recent times, covid outbreaks have exacerbated as many people are not strictly adhering to the Covid protocol.
