Kerala continues to report surge in Covid cases as it confirms 29,682 new positive cases on Saturday. The test positivity rate in Kerala is 17.54 percent at present. Over 1,69,237 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
142 deaths were also confirmed due to Covid today, taking the death toll to 21,422. Bringing respite, 25,910 recoveries were also reported. At present, over two lakh 40,000 people are undergoing covid treatment in the state.
Meanwhile, the next phase of Covid prevention activities has started in the state with the inception of ‘Be the Warrior’ campaign. After releasing the campaign logo,
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that everyone should be Covid defense fighters. Mr. Vijayan also said that the number of Covid patients had not increased after Onam as it was anticipated. The Chief Minister was addressing the media in Thiruvananthapuram after the Covid review meeting.
The State Health Minister Veena George said that the State aims to give every eligible person, the first dose of the covid vaccine by the 30th of this month.
So far, 75 percent of people over the age of 18 in the state have been vaccinated with the first dose. It has been found that the delta variant is responsible for the hike in the number of Covid patients in Kerala.
