India ended the second session at 445/8, leading by 346 runs. Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur forged a partnership of 100 runs, with both scoring half-centuries.
Thakur scored the second fifty of the match, while Pant notched up his maiden half-century of the series, but England struck in quick succession to dismiss both set batsmen.
India reached 329/6 at lunch as the visitors ended the first session with a lead of 230 runs. Moeen Ali got the big fish of Virat Kohli as England dominated the first session.
The first 40 minutes of the first hour belonged to India but the last 20 belonged to England as Chris Woakes sent Ravindra Jadeja (17) and Ajinkya Rahane (0) packing in successive overs to dent India’s chances of setting a sizeable target.
