The 21 kg Balapur Ganesh Laddu, the most popular in Hyderabad, has been auctioned for an all-time record price of Rs 18.90 lakh. The auction took place on Sunday.
About 19 people participated in the auction and the bidding for the laddu started at Rs 1,116. The Balapur laddu auction is held every year on the last day of the immersion of the idol of Vinayaka.
YSR Congress MLC RV Ramesh Yadav and his partner Marri Shashank Reddy from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh picked up the laddu this year.
The auction was canceled due to the ongoing Kovid-19 epidemic last year and Balapur Ganesh Laddu was handed over to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
In 2019, Laddu received a bidding price of Rs 17.60 lakh. In 2018, it was auctioned at a hefty price of Rs 16.60 lakh.
The history of auctioning laddu dates back to 1994. The first laddu was bought by a devotee for Rs.450 and the tradition has been going on ever since.
Bidders across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are believed to bring good luck and prosperity to lock up the laddu.
