Hyderabad: Industry development is possible with healthy employees: DGMS Director Kaushik Sarkar
Mr. Kaushik Sarkar, Director (Occupational Health), Directorate of Mines Safety (DGMS), said that the development of industries is possible only if the employees are healthy, so every employer needs to pay special attention to the health of the employees. He was the chief guest at the monthly meeting of the Mining Engineers Association of India (MEAI) Hyderabad Chapter on Occupational Health and Safety in Mines in Hyderabad on Saturday.
The use of scientific methods and advanced technology in mining, which is crucial for the development of the country, will ensure that those working in the field are not exposed to hazards. The onus is on everyone.
He appreciated the efforts of the Hyderabad Chapter of the Mining Engineers Association to raise awareness among mining students and young engineers. He said that mining was essential for industrial progress and called on the Association of Mining Engineers to work towards setting up health care systems in every organization at risk to enable the conservation of vital human resources in the sector.
He also said that there should be special units to prevent accidents, prevent silicosis, an occupational disease, provide prompt treatment to the injured and take future safety measures. For the first time in the history of coal companies, a first aid center has been set up under Singareni and certificates have been awarded to 67 people in the first batch.
He also promised to support the proposal to set up a first aid center under the auspices of the Association of Mining Engineers. He appreciated that such guest lecturers would help to keep abreast of changes in mining and that the Association of Experienced Mining Engineers would act as a bridge to bring these changes to future engineers.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr. MS Venkataramaiah, Vice Chairman, Association, addressed the gathering. At the Executive Council meeting on the 7th of this month it was decided that the Association should conduct a monthly review on the third Saturday of every month.
He was asked to work on a plan to make the National Council meetings next month a success. He also said that we are giving the opportunity to do a paper presentation. MEAI National Council Secretary General Shri Narsayya addressed the gathering.
At the beginning of the program, DGMS Director Shri Kaushik Sarkar explained the background and services in the field of occupational health, Shri B. Mahesh, Secretary, Singareni Chief Liaison Officer. Executive Member Shri Swaminath paid his respects. Treasurer Shri PVRS Raju, members of the association, mining engineers and students of various engineering colleges participated.
