Another day in the Indian Premier League, another record for MS Dhoni. The Chennai Super Kings captain on Thursday became the first player to complete 100 catches for a franchise in the T20 league, getting to the landmark in match 44 of IPL 2021 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Sharjah.

The former India captain completed his 100th catch for CSK when taking a simple one to dismiss Wriddhiman Saha in Ravindra Jadeja’s over against SRH.

Only Suresh Raina (98 for CSK) and Kieron Pollard (94 for Mumbai Indians) are close to MS Dhoni on the elite list of players with the most catches for a franchise in the IPL.

MS Dhoni is already on top of the list for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in the IPL. He recently went past former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Dinesh Karthik. Dhoni has 158 dismissals in 215 matches, 8 dismissals more than Karthik. Dhoni has 119 catches and 39 stumps as wicketkeeper in the premier T20 league.

Dhoni took as many as 3 catches as he was involved in the dismissals of Jason Roy, Saha and Priyam Garg on Thursday against SRH, who were restricted to 134/7 in Sharjah after Josh Hazlewood and Dwayne Bravo picked up 5 wickets between them.

Notably, Dhoni is the first man to take 3 or more catches in an IPL game 10 times. AB de Villiers is second on the unique list, having done so 5 times.

Dhoni may not have set IPL 2021 on fire with the bat but he has been instrumental in CSK’s golden run in the season. With his field settings, bowling changing and other tactics, Dhoni has showcased why he is rated one of the best white-ball captains in the world.

Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in 2020, has managed just 52 runs in 10 matches but CSK are close to becoming the first side to seal a spot in the play-offs. Having won 3 on the bounce on their return to the UAE, CSK were standing at the top spot of the IPL 2021 points table with 8 wins from 10 matches in the season
