IPL 2021: Rajasthan Royals beat Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Evin Lewis finished the game in the powerplay, says Sanju Samson after RR win

IPL 2021: Sanju Samson was all praise for the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal Shivam Dube and Evin Lewis for their batting performance which helped Rajasthan Royals beat Chennai Super Kings in Match 47 on Saturday.

Rajasthan climbed a place above Mumbai Indians to sixth on the IPL 2021 points table

RR will have to win their remaining 2 games to have a chance of qualifying for the playoffs

Sanju Samson hailed his batsmen for their splendid performance against Chennai Super Kings in Match 47 which saw the Rajasthan Royals gun down 190 with 15 balls to spare to keep their hopes of reaching the IPL 2021 playoffs alive.

RR brought an end to CSK’s 7-match winning streak in the United Arab Emirates thanks to swashbuckling knocks from Shivam Dube (64 not out), Yashasvi Jaiswal (50) and Evin Lewis (27) to move up to sixth position on the points table above Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Samson was all praise for the likes of Jaiswal and Lewis, who laid a solid foundation for the chase with their 77-run opening stand in 5.1 overs before Dube and Samson took charge with their 89-run partnership that took the game away from the Super Kings.

Midle of the post

“We are aware of the abilities of the people we have in our batting line-up. That’s why it’s disappointing when we lose. The wicket was behaving really well in the last 3-4 overs, so we knew it’d be much better in the second innings.

“Our openers have been giving us good starts and almost finished off the game in the powerplay. They were going for the kill,” Samson said after the match.

Jaiswal and Dube’s half-centuries completely overshadowed Ruturaj Gaikwad’s hundred in the first innings. The CSK opener hit his maiden T20 century to help the team post 189 for 4, the highest first-innings score in the UAE leg of IPL 2021, but even that wasn’t enough to stop the RR power-hitters.

“Very happy for young Jaiswal, he’s played really well throughout the tournament, we are very sure he’ll make it big. (Secret behind Jaiswal’s power) He keeps on eating (laughs).

“We have been discussing about Dube from the last 2-3 games. We thought today might be his day. He has been working hard in the nets, very happy for him,” Samson added.

The win helped Rajasthan Royals go level on 10 points with Kolkata Knight Riders (4th), Punjab Kings (5th) and Mumbai Indians
