Maharashtra: Daily Covid cases are declining; Active cases reached 33,000
The daily count of Covid cases in Maharashtra has been dipping at a steady pace. The drop in cases has been observed despite opening up of various sectors and festive season.
According to the State health department, 2,486 cases and 44 deaths were reported yesterday. It also registered a drop in active cases to 33,000.
As many as 2,446 patients recovered yesterday. Similarly, 8 lakh 63 thousand 635 beneficiaries were vaccinated in Maharashtra through 6 thousand 74 vaccination sessions yesterday.
So far, a total of 8 crore 72 lakh 93 thousand 844 vaccine doses have been given in the state. While, so far 2 crore 66 lakh 40 thousand 863 beneficiaries have been given both doses of vaccine.
Maharashtra reported 23,906 cases in the first nine days of October, which is the lowest since February this year.
According to data by state health department, the tally for the first nine days of September was 37,215, and 51,787 new cases were reported in August in the same period.
Senior officials of state government said that since the peak of the second wave hit different parts of the state at different times, the decline has been at the same pace.
While most smaller districts and towns are not reporting a significant number of cases, districts like Mumbai, Pune and Ahmednagar are driving the Covid-19 graph of the state.
State government officials noted that although the cases are low, they are still gearing up for a third wave and are trying to achieve maximum vaccination across the state to push the third wave away by a few months and also reduce its severity.
Meanwhile, in the ongoing vaccination drive, the state’s cumulative vaccination tally have reached up to 8.64 crore.
