Kerala: One more body recovered from debris of landslide that took place at Kootickal in Kottayam district

In Kerala, one more body has been recovered from the debris of the landslide that took place at Kootickal in Kottayam district yesterday. With this the total number of persons killed in the landslide at Kootickal has risen to four. Search operations are underway in Koottickal panchayat and neighbouring Kokkayar in Idukki for people reported missing.

In Pathanamthitta district, Manimalayar, Achankoil and Pampa rivers are flowing above the danger mark. At Mallappally, one of the worst affected areas in the district, rescue operations continued throughout the night. Fishing boats have also been pressed into rescue operations.

In Alappuzha district, water level in many places is rising. Many people living close to river banks have been shifted to safer places.

The Indian Navy loaded relief materials facilitated by the state government at the Naval Airport at Kochi this morning, to be airdropped at the landslide affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Met Department has said light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places in the state with isolated heavy rainfall, during the next 24 hours.
