Vizag Zoo celebrates International Day of Climate Action-2021

On the occasion of “INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CLIMATE ACTION – 2021”, October 24th, Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Visakhapatnam organised a unique competition for the school to college level students.

Recycling and reusing the valuable waste material can result in development of fantastic and usable products. Hence IGZP conducted “REGARD BEFORE YOU DISCARD”- BEST OUT OF WASTE COMPETITION.

Around 30 students from different categories have actively participated in the competition. And a seminar was organised with Prof. A.J Solomon Raju, HOD, Department of Environment, Andhra University addressed on topic Climate change and its effects on environment says the effect of climate change on soil carbon storage can be related to changing atmospheric CO2 concentrations, increased temperatures and changing precipitation patterns and Prof. Sunita, Department of Meteorology And Oceanography, Andhra University addressed on the topic Climate Change and its consequences over India says Humans and wild animals face new challenges for survival because of climate change.

More frequent and intense drought, storms, heat waves, rising sea levels, melting glaciers and warming oceans can directly harm animals, she added. Dr. Nandani Salaria, IFS, Curator, IGZP addressed the gathering on Climate Change, to Let’s take action on climate change together.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle starts with reduce of single use plastic or riding your bike to work, reducing your consumption of materials and energy is key to minimizing your Environmental footprint, She said.

Around 65 students from Department of Environmental Sciences and Department of Meteorology and Oceanography, Andhra University of Science and Technology, have actively participated in the seminar. All the participants were given the participation certificate.
