Tamil Nadu: Six killed, more than ten injured in fire cracker accident
In Tamil Nadu, the death toll in the fire cracker accident yesterday has risen to six .More than ten people have been injured in the accident when fire broke out at a cracker shop at Shankarapuram, Kallakurichi district last night.
Electricity and Revenue officials are at the venue looking out for the missing workers at the godown in the debris. The cracker shops were situated near the National Highway where it was easier for the passersby to stop and purchase crackers and it was a little bit crowded due to the festive season.
Initial inquiries by the police revealed that the fire began at the wholesale cracker shop and later spread to the godown and nearby eateries resulting in explosion of gas cylinders. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Fire tenders were called from nearby areas to extinguish the fire after three hours. Expressing deep sorrow at the incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has announced an ex gratia of Rs.5 lakh to each of the family members who died in the fire accident and Rupees One lakh to the wounded taking treatment at the hospital.
