MSRTC suspends 376 employees for instigating strike

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) yesterday suspended 376 employees from 45 Depots statewide for allegedly instigating others to join the strike.

Meanwhile, the employees continuing their on the 14th day today, despite High Court restrictions. Hence, the MSRTC has filed a contempt petition in the court today.

The corporation has asked the court to issue contempt notices against a total of 343 persons. This includes leaders, office bearers and other key workers of the participating unions.

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation employees went on an indefinite strike from October 28 over their demand for a merger of the corporation with the State Government, but intensified the agitation from Sunday, after Diwali concluded.

Initially, an Industrial Court had declared the strike illegal and later the Bombay High Court, too, declared it illegal when some other unions gave the strike call. The High Court has directed the ST workers’ unions to respond to the contempt petition filed by the MSRTC against the employees by Friday.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Transport Minister Anil Parab has appealed to ST workers not to fall prey to anyone’s rhetoric. He informed that most of the oher demands of the workers have been met. However, the demand for merger of STs in the State Government could not be met in a day or two.

Meanwhile, bus operations at all 250 Depots of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) were shut on even today due to the strike. This caused hardships to common citizens. MSRTC employees are also planning to take out a morcha in Mumbai later in the day.
