Rajasthan: Special session for Children organizes in Legislative Assembly on Children’s day
As a unique experiment of its kind, a Special session for Children was organized today in Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated this special session organised by the Rajasthan chapter of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association on the occasion of ‘Aajadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and Children’s Day.
In this session, children played the role of Speaker, Chief Minister, Leader of Opposition, Ministers and MLAs. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Leader of the Opposition Gulab Chand Kataria were witnesses of the programme.
Ministers and assembly members watched the children’s session from the audience gallery. The special session of its kind in the Rajasthan Assembly, entire proceedings of the house were conducted by 200 children selected from across the country. The children played the role of Speaker, Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition.

During the question hour, as members, children asked questions related to child marriage, use of pesticides in agriculture, prevention of child labour, drug trafficking and government’s policies to promote sports. The children who became ministers answered the questions.
The children raised public issues in the House during zero hour too. Speaker of the Assembly Dr. C P Joshi said that parliamentary democracy will be strengthened by such experiments. He said that this session will help to increase the understanding of the children about the government and its functioning.
Addressing to the programme, speaker Om Birla said that Indian democracy has been strengthened in the past 75 years and increase in the voting percentage is an evidence of it. He said that public participation is must in parliamentary democracy. He emphasized that the public should give their suggestions from time to time on regional and national issues.
