The Centre for Intellectual Property Rights of Andhra University successfully organized and concluded the ATAL-PDP Program sponsored by AICTE on “IPR in Academia- Creation, protection, and Commercialization”.

Prof K Srinivasa Rao, Principal, College of Science & Technology Andhra University, was the Chief Guest for the well-attended Valedictory function of the ATAL-FDP. While addressing the participants, he has complemented the vision of the University leadership to introduce IPR as a mandatory credit course in the university, implementing the IPR policy in the university and conducting a 5-days faculty development program on “IPR in Academia” which creates awareness on various dimensions of IPRs.

In the current knowledge economy, innovative and creative ideas play an important role. The conversion of innovative ideas into processes, products and services, and their protection through appropriate intellectual property is of paramount importance for competitiveness, growth and prosperity of individuals, organizations, and nation as a whole.

As IPR plays very important role in socio-economic development of the nation, understanding and developing skills in IPR are must for our faculty and students; and there is a strong need to introduce IPR course in all universities and organize large number of such FDP programs to create awareness particularly in academia.

Prof Hanumanthu Purushotham, DPIIT- IPR Chair and the Coordinator of the program, presented the summary of the FDP program proceedings during the valedictory today. He has stated that 15 experienced resource persons from CSIR, DRDO, Indian Patent Office, IIT, University of Hyderabad, Patent Attorney, Patent Examiner, DBT,DST etc. were invited to teach the curriculum.

The program was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor Prof PVGD Prasad Reddy on 7th November wherein Prof K Ram Mohan Rao, Vice Chairman APSCHE, and Prof V Krishna Mohan addressed the inaugural session. It is for the first time that AICTE has sanctioned FDP on IPR.  Although there were about 100 faculty members registered for the course, about 62 members on an average attended the program every day from 19 States.

The participants have expressed their full satisfaction of the program and said they have learned many new things from the experienced resource personnel on various aspects of IPR and they gave excellent feedback. An online examination was also conducted to test the learning outcomes of the faculty members.

All the faculty members have passed in the examination and the certificates would be issued online to all the qualified faculty members by AICTE.The entire FDP was monitored and evaluated by an external peer reviewer Dr Manu Vora from USA and he has expressed his satisfaction on the FDP and gave positive feedback to AICTE.

The program ended with vote of thanks proposed by Dr Anindya Roy Chowdhary, Research Officer at DPIIT-IPR Chair.
