Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said the government will be implementing a six-point Action Plan to clean the Yamuna river. Speaking to reporters, Mr Kejriwal expressed hope that cleaning of Yamuna will be completed by February 2025.
He said, it took 70 yrs for river Yamuna to become this dirty and it can’t be cleaned within two days. He said, in the first Action Plan, government is working on sewer treatment on war-footing. Mr Kejriwal informed new sewer treatment plants are being built, the capacity of existing plants is also being increased and the technology of old treatment plants is being changed.
The Chief Minister said, waste from Jhuggi Jhopri clusters that goes into rivers will now be merged into sewers. Mr Kejriwal said, in some areas people haven’t taken sewer connections and government has decided to install sewer connections in such areas at nominal charges.
