MH: Section 144 imposed in Mumbai to prevent large gatherings for next 2 days in view of Omicron
In the wake of the detection of patients infected with the Omicron variant of Covid-29, the Mumbai police have imposed Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure to prevent danger to human life in Greater Mumbai. Another reason which the police have also stated in the order are that incidences of violence that took place in Amravati, Malegaon and Nanded resulting into a law and order situation.
Section 144 has been imposed within Mumbai commissionerate limits to prevent large gatherings in Mumbai. The imposition of section 144 has already come into effect from midnight and it will be in force till Sunday. As per the order, violators will be punished under legal provisions as applicable.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has warned of taking tough decisions if those eligible to take second dose are dilly-dallying in taking the second dose of Covid preventive vaccine.He said that although there has been a good response to vaccination from citizens, about 38 to 40 percent of people in the state have not taken their second dose of the vaccine. Health Minister Rajesh Tope has appealed to the Sarpanchs to cooperate in the Covid vaccination campaign.
