India’s mobile phone exports increased to 1.7 billion dollars

The government has said that Mobile phone exports have increased from 0.2 billion dollars in 2017-18 to 1.7 billion dollars by September this year. However, imports of mobile phones have decreased from 3.5 billion to 0.5 billion dollars.

Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel said this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha yesterday.

She said under the National Policy on Electronics 2019, the government has taken several steps which are expected to increase the domestic manufacturing and export of electronics goods including mobile phones. These measures include Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing.

The minister said, Foreign Direct Investment up to 100 per cent under the automatic route is permitted for electronics manufacturing subject to applicable laws.

She said, Phased Manufacturing Programme has been notified to promote domestic value addition in mobile phones and their sub-assemblies and parts manufacturing. Mrs. Patel said, tariff structure has also been rationalized to promote domestic manufacturing of electronic goods, including Cellular mobile phones.
